One Small Ship Against A Very Big World

Here's a nice model of the Spindrift; the sub orbital passenger craft from the 1968 Irwin Allen series The land of the Giants. In the series it's only seen flying long enough to get the main characters to their destination. It spends the remainder of the series siting in the middle of a forest as the home of the characters ala the Jupiter 2 in Lost in Space. It's a neat design that bears a slight resemblance to the Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I picked this up fully assembled at the 2011 Tucson Toy show.

  1. a damn fine design and if its the Aurora one - a great kit. The inside superstructure was visible and it had a crew working amongst the controls.

any idea who designed the Spindrift / Flying sub etc ?

  2. I was thinking it might be the Aurora kit as well. No interior on this kit though. I'm looking into who designed it/

  3. Such an organic design. It reminds me of the strange ship in Quatermass and the Pit. Almost unearthly. Lovely RP!
